The BIG LIST of Tools & Software Required to Run a Digital Advertising Agency

The-Matrix-the-matrix-23939845-1360-768As I was hurtling through the air at breakneck speeds the other day (In an airplane silly! I’m not Superman.), I had a thought. “Holy crap! The amount of tools and software I use each day is INSANE.” And as any sane person would, I proceeded to write it all down. The more I wrote, the more I realized that going to work these days is more like stepping into The Matrix. “There is no spoon.”

It was a fascinating exercise to see on paper what software and tools it takes to run Clix Marketing. There’s account-side stuff that nearly all PPC managers use. There’s premium tools that we pay for. Bigger picture, there are tools required to manage the Clix team and processes, too. To further expound on the list, including mobile apps for on-the-go management rounded out the list. When I started to write down browser plugins and extensions, I just stopped. Because my hand hurt (and my brain).

Without further ado…

Most of these tools play a vital role in the management of clients, accounts or a business. I personally use a great deal of these on a daily basis (not all – again, I’m not Superman). There are many other pieces of software that I know my peers are using, heck that folks on the Clix team are using, that aren’t on this list. What tools, software or apps are you using that are vital to your digital advertising work day?

  1. Great list. I can’t live without browser extensions such as the Google Tag Assistant, Facebook Pixel helper and WASP.

Personally I use Searchmetrics for SEM research but everybody has it’s own preference of course.

I also use Datafeedwatch for feed management and bGenius and ADchieve for PPC management.

Feedly is my preferred RSS reader after Google reader died.

  2. @SpyFu, of course! Thank you guys for creating such an awesome tool! I can’t speak for John, but for me, Tweetdeck and Hootsuite each specialize in different pieces for me. Tweetdeck allows me to see what’s going on and send one-off tweets as part of a communication. Hootsuite is my go to for sharing content (either from my personal profiles for the company’s). Hootlet is a chrome add on that makes it infinitely quicker than other systems.

  3. Yes it is a whole list of software that you mention in your article “The Big List of Tools & Software Required to Run a Digital Advertising Agency” and you can’t use them all is for sure!
You must know that in all other niches you will have the same problem, means also a Big List of Tools & Software required to run it, and the key is to select just what is necessary and that only you can do with some years experience. |

You choose the most important to start as I see that 15 different will be a good figure some 5 paid and 10 free and your business can be online and active.

Now while you running your business from day to day you will see better what you specific need to better manage your business because all depend of what you as boss want to do!
And a good advice is start with the minimum and sees who the evolution is and than after step by step you can invest in other Tools and Software that will make that you manage your business better!

  4. Very good list. Interesting that I use several of those apps but since I had never made a list, I did not realise there were so many.

One app that I would add there is Time Tracking by primaERP. Great solution.
